Bust Dime 1796 - 1837
The Bust dimes were minted from 1796 through 1837, however there were several design changes throughout these years.
- The original design has been labeled the "Draped Bust" and was minted from 1796 through 1807. In 1798, the small eagle on the reverse was replaced by the heraldic eagle which has been used on several coins since, including the famous 1804 silver dollar and the reverse of the Kennedy half dollar in 1964.
- In 1809, Lady Liberty was turned to face the opposite direction and is depicted wearing a cap with "Liberty" written across the front. The Reverse also reverted back to the original small eagle that was used in 1796. This variety has been labeled the "Capped Bust" and was minted from 1809 to 1837.
