Barber Quarters 1892 - 1916
Barber Quarters, minted in 1892, were named after their creator, Charles E. Barber. These coins replaced the Seated Liberty Quarters that had been in circulation since 1838. Composed of 90% silver and 10% copper, the Barber Quarter remained in production until 1916 when it was replaced by the Standing Liberty Quarter. The introduction of the Barber Quarter brought a fresh design to the currency, reflecting the changing times.
